It is dictated by a political system named English Socialism under the control of the Inner Party, that persecutes individualism and independent thinking.

Many of its terms and concepts, such as Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, Room 101, telescreen, 2 + 2 = 5, and memory holes, have entered into common use since its publication. In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels.

A must read and a great book. It does require a certain amount of perseverance throughout the first chapter or so, but it will become gripping and hard to put down. This has a great plot and follows the life of Winston in and around the city of Airstrip one (London) in a post-war world. In this book, Orwell has influenced a large part of contemporary English language and culture. Still very relevant nowadays.

The book has no font size control, have to pinch zooming, however you cant flip page once you zoomed in unless you zoomed back. Very annoying experience. Try other edition and get the font control as usual. This "Enrich spot " edition is not user friendly.

Wow what an incredible read. Not so far fetched. A true account of our society today and provides an insight of where we are heading. A universal policed state. Big Brother really is watching. Every teenager and adult should read this book and remember we are all individual and should stand up for our rights. Book is fiction but also 21st century fact.
