Gina Melnyk, a high school literature teacher for fifteen years, has a master's degree in creative writing. As a mentor to emerging writers and students, she encourages audiences to embrace and explore concrete images that unite us amid a world of abstractions. Through her poetry, she hopes to build community and create a common ground where readers can reflect and relate.

Her first collection, Devil in My Ear, published in 2006, meanders among the poet's choices in friendships, marriage, and work. About Forty Weeks is her (re)collection of the most transformative time of her life, from wife to mother, which, in retrospect, lasts much longer than the days mapped out by a doctor.

Gina Melnyk lives in Bergen County, New Jersey with her husband and son.
