‘L'Origini di lu Munnu’ è un poema satirico in lingua siciliana. Comprende 75 ottave e fu scritto tra il 1768 e 1770. Venne pubblicato nel 1781 quando Giovanni Meli era già noto tra i letterati di Palermo. Tratta principalmente di argomenti filosofici del tempo, contrastando la scienza e la religione. Il poema è la parodia delle varie teorie avanzate dall’uomo per secoli per capire come il mondo fu creato.
