About this ebook

The abyss gazes back, and it is filled with horrors beyond imagining.

H. P. Lovecraft is the architect of a unique universe, where cosmic dread is often made manifest in terrifying, unspeakable entities. This collection gathers the short stories that feature his most gruesome and iconic creatures--from subterranean predators and hideous mutations to the extraterrestrial gods who rule an uncaring cosmos.

Abandon your human notions of anatomy and sanity, and prepare to confront the inhabitants of the Lovecraftian shadow world, including:

  • The Call of Cthulhu: The seminal tale introducing the slumbering, squid-faced god Cthulhu and the chilling reality of his devoted global cult.

  • The Dunwich Horror: The shocking story of Wilbur Whateley and the unspeakable, unseen creature born from an ancient pact in the secluded hills of Massachusetts.

  • The Shunned House: The localized, hereditary terror of a dwelling plagued by a gelatinous, vampiric entity that drains the life from anyone who sleeps there.

  • The Lurking Fear: A descent into the Catskill Mountains where a series of bizarre attacks uncovers a monstrous, mutated clan hiding beneath the earth.

Also featuring haunting narratives like The Nameless City, The Music of Erich Zann, and the existential despair of The Outsider, this volume is an essential journey into the heart of Lovecraftian fear.

Republished in a new edition complete with a dedication by George Henry Weiss, H. P. Lovecraft's Creatures and Monsters is the definitive introduction to the pantheon of terrifying beings that have influenced a century of horror fiction.

What unimaginable shape will the next terror take?
