This book is very reflective of 19th and early 20th century America - an America whose technology and appearance has largely gone by, but whose character largely remains. Very enjoyable to read of an America of simpler technology and harder labor, of beautiful, unspoiled nature and farmland and small town - even if sometimes in stories of great hardship and misfortune.
