It started with a window that was jammed shut. Pretty simple, right? All I wanted was to open the windows while I tidied the house. I’d been after my no-good husband to do it for months, but he never did. And then he shacked up with his secretary, leaving me with a pile of bills, husband-free for the first time in ten years, and with a house that was falling apart.

The ad popped up on the side of my social media feed—a local contracting agency willing to do pretty much anything. Since I don’t really know a screwdriver from a ratchet, I gave them a call.

And let me tell you, the ad was NOT lying. Jesse O’Neill can do it ALL…and looks amazing doing it.

He fixed my window, so I called him back to fix the sagging, splintery front steps. Which led to him fixing my kitchen sink. And then he recarpeted my stairs. And then fixed the squeak in my bed.

He was supposed to fix my house, not my rusty, sputtering libido. And certainly not my broken heart.

Imogen is a divorced RN that is trying to figure out her life and her fix-it-upper home. Jesse is a handyman that thinks he has his life figured out. This is the story of what happens with the designer falls for the client if this was a fixer-up show. I do not read a lot of Jasinda Wilder. She is on my list of “hit or miss” authors. There are some of her novels that I absolutely connect with and love and others, I do not finish. With that said, I was excited to read this story because 1. It was about a couple that was older than 30 and 2. It was about average, everyday characters. Although Jesse was hot, he still had some physical flaws, and his six-pack was not as defined. At the beginning of the story, I could understand Imogen’s low confidence, hesitancy, and doubt about her body. Her marriage and divorce had done a number on her self-esteem and confidence. However, towards the end of the novel, when all the adult action takes place, Imogen’s low self-confidence and body image issues were frustrating and tiresome. I think I would have understood it better or sympathized with her if the way her behaviors and actions were written differently. I found it hard to sympathize with her when Jesse is trying to boost her confidence in the middle of the adult action. I felt it slowed down the action and got in the way of what needed to come next. Jesse also felt like a one-dimensional character. It is not until the end that we find out more about him and his emotional issues. I would have liked to have read about Jesse’s emotional turmoil regarding his budding relationship with Imogen. Or even a male roundtable about it. This story does end on a HEA with a sneak peek at the next novel in the series. I think the novels in this series are supposed to be standalone, however, I think reading the previous novels will help with those characters are introduced in the novel. Overall, this was a good read, however, I wanted it to be steamier and less emotionally real with regards to Imogen or more complexity in Jesse when it came to relationships and giving Imogen more of a reason to be concerned. It is worth the read if you have the time.

if you are unfamiliar with the Badd Brothers Series (there has to be a brother or 2 that you will love, and their ladies wow wee they are so fun, such backstories, so many funny moments, great reads.), be sure to check that series out. But, Beth knows better than that to know you of course have read that series, who hasn't????!! ANYONE?? Please start now. You know you are on the JW bandwagon and love her writing style. This series is a bit different, but the same, hot men, hard working people, a backstory for every character, ...You can totally see her humor. I honestly thought it would have been considered a romantic comedy ...apparently not??! Who knew??! I would have swore?! Would have even put some money on it??! There is just so much humor ...with Audra and Jesse there is just so much happening, if you are like me you will talk to these characters ...it is like an interaction book ...or maybe I just like talking to characters in books??! I can not be the only one who does this??! right?? There are so many hot and steamy moments as well. I totally wanna see this house in person & the moments that happen in the house with Jesse and Imogen ... steamy windows. (See a link to Tina Turner's song???! any one??!) I love these characters, I think for me, Jasinda has these characters that are easily like, or ones who are easily relatable ... or maybe that is just how my mind works that, I jump into a book and see who I love or like best character wise and find what parts of their life or quirkiness that is sort of similar to me??! I look forward to seeing what and where she heads with this series. I really like Franco ...will be curious where he story goes. I was super lucky to get on this list to read this book ahead of others ...I have loved Jasinda for ...gosh so long now ...she is awesome.

Amusing and steamy at times, although a bit predictable in the story line. While only her baggage - ex-husband - is clear for the reader from the start, he has a history making him leery of relationships, too. I may read more of this series.
