About the author
Hannah Arendt va néixer a Hannover el 1906. Deixeble de Heidegger i Husserl, protegida de Karl Jaspers i establerta a Nova York des del 1941, després que els alemanys ocupessin França, va dividir conscientment la seva activitat intel.lectual entre la filosofia i la teoria política i va assolir un gran prestigi tant a Europa com a Amèrica. El 1951 va publicar Origins of totalitarism, potser el seu llibre més conegut, al qual van seguir textos tan fonamentals per al pensament contemporani com On revolution (1963), Men in dark times (1968), La condició humana (1969) o The life of the mind (1971). Professora a les universitats de Berkeley, Princeton, Columbia i Chicago; directora d'investigacions de la Conference on Jewish Relations (1944-1946) i col.laboradora de diverses publicacions periòdiques com ara Review of Politics o Partisan Review, Hannah Arendt va passar els seus últims anys exercint l'ensenyament a la New School for Social Research. Va morir el 1975.
