Die "Neuordnung der Ausbildungsberufe zum Chemielaboranten/zur Chemielabor- antin" vom Dezember 1986 weist der analystischen Chemie einen erweiterten Rahmen zu. Insbesondere wurde das Gebiet der instrumentellen Analytik stärker betont. Die klassischen Verfahren der qualitativen chemischen Naßanalyse und der herkömmlichen quantitativen Analytik, wie Gravimetrie und Volumetrie, werden gleichwohl auch in der neu geordneten Berufsausbildung für Chemielaboranten beibehalten.
