Hard Knocks by Lori Foster is a good preview of what to expect in the Ultimate book series, and I can’t exactly complain about getting another glimpse of the awesomeness that is Armie. My 3-star review is more a product of not getting enough story than there being anything I didn’t like about it. I think if anyone is thinking about starting this series and just can’t quite make a decision, Hard Knocks is going to be a great hook to reel the readers in and give them a glimpse of just how good one of these stories in full-length can be. ***FicCentral received this book from Harlequin (via NetGalley) for free in exchange for an honest review. Even so, we're far too opinionated to let a freebie influence our thoughts or the contents of the reviews we post here.

This novel was an intriguing look at the live and relationship of a MMA fighter. There are scenes so hot that I swear there was steam rising from the pages. These scenes intermingle with down to earth, real life interactions between the characters. Foster definitely brings the rec centre & the world surrounding it to life. I love the way that Foster puts Gage’s inner turmoil and struggle to paper, not only does it give you a deeper sense of who he is but it also develops the story in an unmistakable way. I loved this intro into the fighters. She sets them up perfectly for the series. My biggest disappointment with this one? The fact that it wasn’t a full length novel. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a complete story in and of itself and I absolutely adored it, but I so loved these characters and I didn’t want to let them go. Foster definitely has me hooked on this series!

Gage and Harper coupling and coming together after a fighters mistake and a miscommunication on their part. It all comes together with a little flirting and meddling from fellow friends at a viewing oarty for the Japan SBC MMA matches Gage missed.
