Wetlands form a unique ecosystem which is one of the richest among all the ecosystems from biodiversity point of view. The role of wetlands is enormous in enrichment of natural beauty, maintenance of environmental quality, control of floods, recharging of ground water level, livelihood support for the destitute community and so on. This book draws the expertise, in-depth knowledge and experiences of the scholars and stakeholders representing various disciplines to throw light on the significant issues of preservation, development and sustainable economic growth through inland freshwater wetlands. The book contains Twenty-Eight papers focusing on livelihood issues of the wetland dependent people and the effects on various related problems. It also provides a database on physical and chemical changes of the wetlands, land use/land cover changes in the fringe areas, impact on wetland’s productivity, biodiversity conservation and the livelihood support system for the people living in their surroundings.

Therefore, this book will be useful for academicians, researchers, development authorities, NGOs, policy makers, planners and all the people concerned to preserve, protect and develop the wetlands for enhancing the environmental quality and socio-economic welfare of the society.

Autoren-Profil

Dr Pradip Sharma retired as Associate Professor from Cotton University, the oldest Government academic institution of entire North-East India. He has been honoured as PhD supervisor in three different universities, consultant to multiple Government organisations and part of more than 22 national and international projects. He has authored more than 60 research papers and book chapters, 11 books and edited 13 volumes of books, journals and proceedings. Along with being executive and life members of more than 20 government and non-government organisations, he has delivered more than 200 popular talks as keynote speaker and resource person.

Dr Jaideep Baruah is a Senior Scientific Officer and presently heading the Environment Division of the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC). He had been the Nodal Officer for implementation of “Conservation and Management Action Plan of Deepar Beel (a Ramsar Site)” and also the Coordinator of the Environmental Information System Hub at ASTEC.

Dr Dhanjit Deka is an Assistant Professor in B Borooah College, Guwahati since 2010. He has published 10 research papers in reputed national and international journals, edited books and conference proceedings. He is the member of a few professional bodies like IGI, IIG, NEIGS, Assam Science Society, CEEED, IGU Commissions etc.

Prachuryya Kaushik is an Assistant Professor in The Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati. Being a Structural Engineer and Accredited Professional of Indian Green Building Council, he has published eight technical papers and edited a few conference proceedings and periodicals.
