For we who know the Salvation Army through its missions and thrift stores, here are the stories of how they changed the lives of people in the 19th century London slums. Begbie was moved by James' Varieties of Religious Experience. He was cited by Rev. Sam Shoemaker and his only text now in the public domain. Shoemaker's approach to spirituality left a deep imprint on Alcoholics Anonymous.

The testimonies, when you finally get to them, will knock your socks off, but much if the author's commentary is aggravating and patronizing. The power of Christ to change lives in a moment is amazing!
