A powerful tale of a young woman coming of age in the slave south written in a lush style. Stowe uses the characters as voices of various perspectives on slavery and it's concomitant social effects in an effective way. She idealizes the North and reveals racist attitudes towards 'the African race' at times. But the book is still a worthwhile read.
