I grew up in Orangeburg, a small suburban town outside of New York City. When I was 13 years old, I decided that I wanted to help make the world a better place. Specifically, I decided that I wanted to be happy and healthy and I wanted to help others be happy and healthy as well. I've been on that journey ever since. It lead me at first to become a Chiropractor and later to study Chinese medicine, homeopathy, herbalism, yoga and eventually something that I had never heard of.... Ayurveda. When I found Ayurveda, I new I'd dedicated the rest of my life to this science as it answered all of my deeper questions about health and life. My study of Ayurveda eventually lead me to open the first school of Ayurvedic medicine in the United States, start the first State Association for Practitioners and eventually to form the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and the National Council on Ayurvedic Education. While for nearly 20 years, my work focused on developing the profession and writing textbooks, my interest turned to the general public in 2004 and thus I set out to write a book anyone could learn from. That was the origin of Healing Your Life; Lessons on the Path of Ayurveda, and I was excited to share it in 2011. Since then I have have been sharing the knowledge of Ayurveda and Yoga around the world as well as continuing to develop the profession and the California College of Ayurveda.
