This story started suddenly and with a “bang” when, in Chapter One, the heroine (Kody) turned around to find a gun in her face. I like that kind of action in a suspenseful story (what I call “getting right down to it”). The romance angle to this story started right off the bat too when it was obvious to the reader that one of the thieves and hostage takers (Barrow aka Nick) was not as violent as the others, was protective of the hostages in fact. Turns out Nick was an undercover FBI agent who had met Kody once before when he was in New York and tried throughout most of this story to keep her from recognizing him and letting his undercover persona be discovered by the leader of the thieves. In any event, there was an undercurrent of violence in the story from the leader of the thieves that added to the suspense and the “cat and mouse” chase to discover a hidden stash of jewels with all of the hostages staying alive. I enjoyed this suspenseful romance very much! I was provided an advance copy of the book by NetGalley.
