The Paxton family owns a ranch in Paxton Springs, Texas. The Paxton brothers run the ranch, but their mother has chosen to build a vacation resort on their property. Lucienne’s best friend, who is married to one of the Paxton brothers, suggests that his mother hire Lucienne to decorate this new resort. Lucienne is happy to leave New York. It has been discovered that her father’s girlfriend has stolen money form a non-profit that Lucienne has set up in New York General Hospital. She claims that that Luciena is an accomplice because she had signed all of the purchase orders. As it turns out, Lucienne loves her life in Texas. She enjoys decorating the resort, her boss treats her like a daughter, and she is very attracted to Brock Paxton. Unfortunately, her father wants her to use this time to talk the Paxtons into selling their ranch to him. He claims he will use this money to keep Lucienne out of jail. However, Lucienne, is an honest person who does not want to steal the Paxtons’ legacy. Brock is very observant and is immediately suspicious of Lucienne. Therefore, he decides to find out what she is hiding. Brock and Lucienne are two very interesting characters. Lucienne is an honorable, hard-working, caring person. However, due to her naiveté, she is gullible to being used for fraud. On the other hand, Brock is strong, independent and loyal. Even though he catches Lucienne in her lie, he refuses to give up on her. He attempts to help her clear her name. Another exciting part of the story is when Brock has a physical run-in with two members of an antigovernment group. This causes problems for both Brock and Lucienne as they try to exact their revenge. Even though this is the second book in this series, readers can easily read this one first. Ms. Crooks does a fantastic job of cluing the readers into important and necessary information from that book. I am definitely looking forward to reading the third book in this series.

Opposites attract but the one thing they have in common, they will anything to protect their family. Lucienne is a nurse practitioner from New York, She is in trouble and has asked her dad for help. He wants her to travel to Texas and ask the Paxton family to sell their ranch for the minerals. Brock Paxton will do anything to protect the family ranch. Soon these two will be clashing but can't deny the chemistry that they share. This is a clean romance with plenty of emotion. With a pinch of mystery it will keep you turning the pages. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
