This book was amazing to read in so many ways! I would read this book all over again if I had to. The books name is Hips to be Square which is written by Hope Lyda. Even the title of this novel sounds catchy and intriguing. Personally, I loved reading this novel due to its genre being Fiction-Contemporary even if the book is fictions it sounded so real. The author even used a real work place that is located here in the United States in the state of Minneapolis. The things that happened to the main character which is Mari can happen to so many people around the world. Mari is single in her late 20’s, weird, and very awkward at times. This can describe some of the women out there right now. Most of the population can relate to the main character that I have just described previously. The point of view in this novel was in first person, so we can feel what Mari is feeling during all the events that occur. A short summary of this novel is that Mari which is the protagonist, or the main character is single and already going to turn thirty. During the whole book crazy events occur in her life that can quickly change her life. Her friends try to help her out as much as possible to find that special someone in her life. You’ll have to read the novel for you to find out if she does find someone or not. For you reader to know who the main characters are it is Mari the protagonist and Rae the antagonist. You have heard me speak about Mari, but Rae is another different story. Rae is very mean to Mari and Rae makes Mari feel less than she really is. In this novel she is more so like a bully that keeps picking on Mari. A major conflict that I would mention from this novel is Mari vs. Self. It is a constant fight for her to find someone all depends on the actions that she makes her in life. In this book there is many characters that have shown up, but my favorite would have to be Mari. She is a character that anyone can relate to on a personal level. The only thing I would like to change about this novel is to make Mari a more confident person with her views and beliefs. This book took me about 4 days to read but I thought of it as a really good pace book compared to all the others books I read it was pretty fast for a 336-page novel. If the book isn’t fast for you it is good to go at your pace for you to find this book as suitable as I did.
