Raul Pompeia (Raul D'Ávila Pompeia) nasceu em Angra dos Reis em 12 de abril de 1863 e faleceu na noite de Natal de 1895, no Rio de Janeiro. Escritor cuja obra máxima é o clássico romance "O Ateneu", tida por muitos como a mais relevante do Realismo no Brasil. Politicamente atuante, teve muitas inimizades notáveis, dentre elas Olavo Bilac.
