His two volumes Research and Relevant Knowledge and To Advance Knowledge (both published by Transaction) cover the history of universities in the United States during the twentieth century.

Roger L. Geiger is Distinguished Professor of Higher Education and former head of the higher education program at the Pennsylvania State University. He is also senior scientist at the Center for the Study of Higher Education. He has edited the Perspectives on the History of Higher Education series since 1993.
