This book is based on three elements to expand your mastery of the language fast and easy. A lot of vocabulary in original non-artificial stories, immediate availability of meaning in immersive interlinear format, and memorizing efficiency through repetition and association by story. Use the following method to attain new vocabulary fast:
1. Read the stories and re-read them until you know most of the words.
This is a fast process because there's no lookup time with the unique word-for-word literal plus idiomatic translations, and most words or their root forms occur more than once, so you'll start recognizing them already after the first read. If looking at (yes, not up) our word-for-word translation costs one second, and looking up a word in a dictionary costs a minute, it means our method is a lot faster.
2. Then focus on the remaining words that you still don't know by marking them in the text.
Rereading only the paragraphs with difficult words will help you memorize them both by repetition and by association. Where a google or dictionary translation might be missing or misplaced, the manually added literal word-for-word translation is in context and correct conjugation. This means that on top of being much faster, you're learning much more efficiently than with any other method.
Interlinear word-for-word literal (plus idiomatic where necessary) translation is the key to reading a foreign language from day one.
I started creating literal plus idiomatic translations with HypLern in 2006 for Spanish and Russian to allow students to start reading in a foreign language with a beginner's vocabulary. In 2020 there are over 80 books allowing you to read and learn in more than 20 languages and literal plus idiomatic word-for-word translations to English, Danish, Dutch, Spanish and Mandarin. Check out my site at hyplern.com !!!
Those translations are available in an interlinear format here on Google Play Books as pdfs. If you would like an epub instead, contact us using the information in the book. The hyplern.com website offers both interlinear and pop-up formats for beginning to advanced readers of a foreign language and includes vocabulary practice tools.
The result is that students learn new vocabulary much faster because they get more and more complex vocabulary from the start and with the meanings in context immediately available. Especially if reinforced with revisiting the low frequency words a bit more often, this combination has you reading a foreign language independently in no time.
HypLern's goal is to create interlinear books with a word-for-word literal plus idiomatic translation for as many languages as possible. Find the paperback edition on Amazon!
