Stories by Mahadev More highlight the lives of the downtrodden, of the lowest lower class. Some of them have a serious approach while some reflect humour. On the outskirts of the very few middle class people lays the vase universe of the workers, dalit, etc. These stories are all about their lives, their styles, their problems, their moments of happiness, etc. The versatility of subjects is the peculiar feature of these stories. The author has spent his life with them, he has labored on the farms, worked in an automobile workshop, driven a taxi, run a flour mill. During this journey, he came across many seeds for stories. He has sown them and nurtured them. His stories are not just entertaining, they have the qualities to make us stop and think about others. He has not captivated his language in any of the artistic presentation. His words are very simple. Yet, he has added substantially to the Marathi literature. महादेव मोरे यांच्या ‘ईगीन’ या नव्या संग्रहातील कथा समाजाच्या तळागाळातील लोकांचे जीवन अधोरेखित करतात. काही गंभीर, तर काही गमतीदार अशा त्या कथा आहेत. मूठभर पांढरपेशांच्या सीमित जगाबाहेर दलित-पददलितांचे, कष्टक-यांचे एक विशाल जग आहे, तर ह्याच जगातील लोकांच्या हर्ष-खेदाच्या, व्यथा-विवंचनांच्या ह्या कथा आहेत. विषय वैविध्य हे ह्या कथांचे वैशिष्ट्य आहे. रानामाळात मजुरांसह घाम गाळणे, मोटार वर्कशॉपमध्ये काम करणे, टॅक्सी ड्रायिंव्हग करणे, पिठाच्या गिरणीत राबणे व आदी विविध कष्टाची कामे करीत आयुष्य घालविलेल्या लेखकाला आपल्या खडतर जीवनप्रवाहात जी कथाबीजं हाती लागली ती पूर्ण नजाकतीसह त्याने इथे फुलविलेली आढळतात. वाचनीयतेच्या अंगाने जाणा-या ह्या कथा केवळ रंजकच नाहीत तर त्यापलीकडे जाऊन त्या आपला सकस व दर्जेदारपणाही सिद्ध करतात. वाचकाला गुंगविणा-या, विचार करायला लावणा-या व काही वेळा त्याच्या गालांवर स्मितहास्याची रेषा फुलविणा-या ह्या कथांनी मराठी कथेचे दालन समृद्ध केले आहे. मराठी सीमा भागातील मातीचा गंध घेऊन आलेली खास भाषा व तीतून उमटलेली ठसठशीत व्यक्तिचित्रे हेही ह्या कथांचे सामथ्र्य आहे. उपमा, अलंकार, प्रतिमा आदींच्या जंजाळात न अडकता साध्या, सरळ व प्रवाही निवेदनशैलीने वाचकाला शेवटपर्यंत बांधून ठेवण्याचे लेखकाचे कसबही दाद देण्यासारखे आहे.
