About this ebook

The fourth book in the epic saga of humankind's war of transcendence

Humanity had appeared to fend off the Sh'daar assault once and for all, though they never learned why the alien empire was driven to halt Earth's advancement toward technological Singularity.

But in this war of worlds, victory is always elusive. And now a new battle begins.

After 20 years of peace, not one but two fragile truces are unraveling. Alexander Koenig, the former Navy commander whose heroics forced the Sh'daar into submission, has won a second term as President of the United States of North America. But pursuing his mandate - sovereignty from the centuries-old Earth Confederation - becomes a risky proposition due to events taking place on the other side of the galaxy. A Confederation research vessel has been ambushed. Destroyers are descending on a human colony. It seems the Sh'daar have betrayed their treaty, and all nations must stand united - or face certain death.

Though the storyline is rather interesting, I wouldn't recommend this book to any but the biggest fans of the series. The author continuously and excessively repeats details that are already known (because they've already been excessively repeated in the three previous books), time and again. There are also more than a few times when the author confuses between different characters (no wonder, "Greg" and "Gregory" do sound alike). Other than that, the story is average - not too good and not too bad.

Great story, flows well. Some great concepts. My only problem is that he tends to repeat the same descriptions of the tech in the book several times. There really isn't any need to define the GRIN tech or the singularity four or five times thought out the book. He does this with many things and I'm not sure if it's a word-count deal or what. It's almost as if it was a bunch of short stories put together.

These books (all four) could easily be cut some 50-100 pages if the author didn't feel the need at every docking to explain how many rotations per minute the habitat rings where doing etc. Same goes for everything else, feels like 30 percent of these books are cut and paste of writings from earlier in the book or earlier in the series.
