關於這本電子書

As part of a study of road construction on glacier ice, a program of measurements of the horizontal and vertical movement of the surface of the ice has been conducted. This report covers measurements from 1956 through the 1963 thaw season. The measurement procedure is described, and the movement data are tabulated. Appendixes A and B present short-term horizontal movement measurements and station elevations, respectively. The rate and direction of both the vertical and horizontal movement on the Tuto ramp are fairly consistent on an annual basis. The upward vertical movement from Station 20+00 to 58+00 on the original Ramp Road is probably caused by the ice upthrust over a stagnant wedge of ice at the edge of the glacier. The existence of this wedge is evidenced by the small amount of horizontal movement at the edge of the glacier and the upward vertical movement of the ice in the area in front of the wedge.
