The illustrated hardcover edition of this pioneering effort in muckraking. This is the second of two volumes, and contains chapters 9 ('The Fight for the Seabord Pipe-Line) through 18 (conclusion, appendix). Most of this history was compiled from conversations Mrs. Tarbell had with Henry H. Rogers, co-founder of Standard Oil. It documents the history of Standard Oil, the competitive (and anti-competitive) business practices employed by Rockefeller, as well as the general history of oil extraction and distillation prior to Standard Oil's rise.
