This book was great from page one. The heart pounding drama continued throughout the book. Be prepared to read it in one session. Once I started it I couldn’t put it down! This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last. I really love the thrill, drama and nonstop action. I was torn between the two suspects and was surprised by the ending! I loved the mentor and mentee relationship between retired DCI Amber and the new unit profiler Daniel! They worked really well together

This is the first book that I've read by this author and I really enjoyed reading it. Ms.Berndt has a beautiful writing style, she has put a good plot together, and with strong characters. Although by the leads I did figure out before the end of the book who the killer was, I just kept reading the story because the author could transport the characters' feelings to the reader. Well done! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

About the author

Denise Yoko Berndt got her first library card aged two and wrote her first short story aged eight. The plot? A female bank director robs her own bank. It took a while until she released her first novel (The Poriomaniacs - Dead in Dornbirn in 2006) but she stuck to a life of crime (in books that is!).

Four cozy crime novels featuring all-girl rock band The Poriomaniacs as reluctant sleuths were followed by four thrillers set in the quaint German university town of Tubingen, a standalone thriller based on the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and since 2020 several volumes of her London thriller series with ex-DCI Amber Fearns as the protagonist.

She studied screenwriting at UCLA Extension where she developed the story that became her novel Flammenmund.

When she’s not busy travelling the world, researching new book ideas, her favorite place to be is London.
