This book is a simplified explanation of what the aviation industry is all about. It deals by chapters with different sectors of the industry and explains the functions of the particular sector. The book can serve as an introduction to aviation for students taking up training in the aviation professions. It can also serve as an informative book for aviation enthusiasts or any other person interested in the basic concept of the aviation industry.

The book is written in a basic simplistic factual way without the high technological terminology of the aviation industry, and it is therefore easy to understand. It makes interesting reading and easy to understand and follow.

The book covers the historical events of aviation as well as the developments from the first flight and the technological advancements that have made aviation what it is today. Also covered is the role each sector of aviation plays in making up the big picture. It explains in simple terms different core professions in the aviation industry. It covers the core equipment used, with the aircraft at the center of it all.

The aviation sectors covered in the book include aircraft manufacture, aircraft maintenance, aircraft operations, air traffic control, training, and how they all come to complement each other under the aviation regulations.

O autorovi

Fred Mabonga joined the aviation industry in 1975. Since then he has had extensive training and experience within the industry, and he has worked for various airlines and a regulatory authority.

Trained in the United Kingdom at Brunel College and Oxford Air Training School, he obtained his Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s License in 1982 issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. He also completed the UKCAA airworthiness course in 1996. He obtained the UKCAA Flight Telephony Operator’s License. He completed the IATA course on aircraft maintenance and engineering management in 1995 and the IATA course on human factors in aviation maintenance in 2003.

Fred has been an aircraft maintenance engineer for many aviation companies in various countries, and he has also held management positions, including as engineering manager and quality assurance manager at Air Namibia and Air Botswana. In 1983 to 1987, he was a technical instructor at Air Zimbabwe where he taught aircraft engineers. In 1998 to 2000, he was deputy chief of aviation safety at the Directorate of Civil Aviation in Namibia. He was in charge of airworthiness and chairman of the technical committee on aviation regulations. He has type training and experience on various aircraft from ATR42, Dash 8, BAe146 up to Boeing 747-400. He also has had training and experience on helicopters, including Bell 427 and Bell 430 types. Fred has exposure to air accident investigation and aviation safety training, working to break the chains to prevent aircraft incidents and accidents.

He has experience in aviation technical consultancy and project management. He has a passion for aviation and is interested in training and promoting safety in the industry.
