I was traveling while reading this, and it took a few days to get through the first 25 percent of the story (but it also helped me relate to Jess and Grosstet immensely!) After getting home, I planned on reading another few pages before bed and instead finished the book in a little over 2 hours! The first several pages pick up where we left off, giving light reminders of what came before but diving into the narrative. The tension is present, but as a reminder of some of the stakes rather than in-your-face. As usual, even mundane routines are made to feel mildly compelling and even intriguing. Morin can make these entertaining while moving the story. After getting our characters involved with the local world, the relationships build and develop in new ways while the action suddenly ramps up. This is still a connecting story, but we get a solid reminder of stakes and capabilities, motivations and hints of intrigue. As usual with a Morin book, I loathe waiting for the next one!

Lots of fun to be had in this installment. I'd forgotten how much I missed Carl in the stories. He's a fun character. Things are coming together for the crew and, as usual, things don't really go to plan. As a result, we get to see some of our characters exercise their particular talents. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
