From a young age, Jack Dash wanted to be a writer but, as often happens, life got in the way of his ambition and he started work as a costermonger on York market, followed by a spell as a fish salter on Grimsby docks. After becoming one of York University’s first computer science graduates, Jack worked in the IT industry for twenty years but when they started making computers that worked properly, Jack sought a new challenge and became a teacher instead. His first post was at an agricultural college in the Lake District but the smell was too much so he took a job in Cairo, which wasn’t much better, but he stuck it out for four years before getting a posting in Hong Kong. After twelve years as a teacher, Jack took early retirement to follow his childhood dream and become a writer.
