Jack London wurde am 12. Januar 1876 unter dem Namen John Griffith Chaney in San Francisco geboren und starb am 22. November 1916. Er gelangte zu internationaler Bekanntheit durch Werke wie "Ruf der Wildnis" (1903) und "Seewolf" (1905).
