As a diabetic, I knew it was important to start making some serious changes, but this book has shown me how I can do it and takes the tone that if I make some hard choices and follow the steps outlined here, I can actually reverse my diabetes and make it go away. Not being a diabetic anymore would be like getting a second chance at life! What I like about this is that it makes it easy, but there aren't many recipes, so for other diabetics looking at this or just people who think they don't like veggies, I am including this recipe in my review. Here is an awesome way to cook collards that you will really enjoy! Collard Greens Recipe: What you need: Olive Oil (used expeller pressed!) Yellow Onion Fresh Bunch of Collards Low Sodium Vegetable Broth Food Processor or a good chopping knife and cutting board and lots of patience Big pot with a cover that fits Peel the onion and cut it into quarters. Put it in the food processor with just enough olive oil to coat it and then process it until it's basically an onion smoothie. If you're not using a food processor, then chop it up really small and just use enough olive oil to lightly coat the bottom of the pot. Put the onion and the olive oil in the pot and cook on medium heat, covered, and stirring until everything is translucent and the onion is getting sweet. You need to check it and stir it pretty often if you don't want burned onion! While the onion and oil are cooking, prepare your collards: Rinse them and shake off excess water. Then chop off the ends of the stems. The cut the collards into strips. I do this by taking a few leaves, rolling them into a tight tube, and then cutting it into pieces. If you are using the processor, then put the strips into the processor in batches, as much as it can handle at a time. If you are hand chopping, just cut them into as small pieces as you can. Once all of the collards are finely chopped, add them to the pot along with the vegetable stock. You can also use water and bouillon or chicken broth if you find a low-fat, low sodium variety. Turn the pot to medium high and stir it all together until the collards are steaming and everything is starting to simmer. Make sure you have plenty of liquid so nothing burns. Then turn it down to low, put the top on, and cook it for a LONG time. (At least an hour, stirring every 10 minutes or so) When these are done, they will melt in your mouth! Before reading this book, I would never ever have written a recipe like that. I was a passionate cook, but it was all about making my own candy and cookies and baking cakes and trading dessert recipes. Now I have been forced to make healthy food taste good and I am rising to the challenge! Thanks to this book, I am getting passionate about food all over again but in a totally different way

My husband had a heart attack last year and we have all been so scared. My sister gave us this book and told us to read the strategies for heart disease. I am definitely amazed at what I read, and we are very hopeful that he can get his health back with some of the tips here. I always thought of heart disease having to do with fat, not sugar, but this book really explains how too much sugar plays into it as well. I found this book very easy to read and it was not at all confusing or boring. Everything is written clearly and without being wordy. I am planning on giving this to other people I know who are struggling with similar health issues or with some of the other health problems discussed in this book. I have a friend who has been struggling with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, and if she hasn't read this yet, then I will be giving it to her. My neighbor has type 2 diabetes that has progressed pretty far, but it seems like this book is saying that no matter how sick you are, you can make a difference if you start making better choices right now and change the way you eat and the way you live. I will definitely be recommending this in the months to come. I know a lot of people with health problems that I think might be related to this. This book says every american eats 150 pounds of sugar a year!! That's a lot of sugar, and that means straight sweetener. Sugar that is found naturally in foods like berries and carrots doesn't count. We all need to change what we put into our bodies. After nearly losing the man I love last year, I have learned that what we need to value is our health and our loved ones and help each other to do well and stick around longer.

This is a really helpful book. I was especially excited when I saw Dr. Christiane Northrup's endorsement on the cover. She is such an important voice in the women's health movement, and seeing her name on the cover was enough to convince me. When I got the book home, it helped me realize that I am what Dr. Teitelbaum calls a “Type 4” sugar addict, which is directly linked to my hormones. So this book can help me not only feel better, but also feel better as a post-menopausal woman. I thought it would help me lose weight and maybe get sick less often, but after reading about my addiction and beginning my treatment I think it will help me in all the “womanly” areas of my life. I especially loved that instead of going “cold turkey”, there are gradual steps I can take. I have only been on the regimen for about a week, but I look forward to improvement quickly. I am very excited that following this plan may help me become a better wife and grandmother by giving me more energy and helping me regulate my moods. This book is not just for women either. There are all kinds of sugar addicts, including men, and I would recommend checking it out if you feel tired or grumpy or stressed out. I hadn't realized just how many problems were linked to diet in general and sugar intake specifically. I can't say enough good things about this and it has really changed how I look at what I eat.
