«.. وذهب (الصياد) باتجاه الصوت، فوجد أنه يصدر من إحدى شتلات الذرة الخضراء (سيلو).. قالت له أن يقطع بعضاً من جذورها.. ويقوم في الصباح التالي بمضغه.. قبل أن يستيقظ أحد غيره، ثم يذهب إلى الغابة حيث سيقتل غزلاناً كثيرة.. نفّذ الصياد كل التوجيهات التي زوّدته الروح بها، وقد اعتبر من ذلك الحين الصياد الأكثر نجاحاً بين جميع صيادي القرية!». لا تسمي (الشيروكي) حكاياتها الشعبية أساطير، فهي تمثل لهم تعاليم مقدسة فسرّ بها أجدادهم وحكماؤهم حقائق الكون والوجود الخالدة، واعتبروها تخصهم وحدهم، فلا يجوز للآخرين سردها وإخبارها
