This is book two in the Cold Case Justice series. I have not read book one, Drawing fire, and had no problem keeping up with what was going on in this book, however I probably missed out on not only some good reading but a lot of background. I say that because this book ends in some respects where I can see book three picking up. Janice Cantore does a great job at developing her characters and her descriptions. Her chapters are written from different characters throughout the novel and it takes a sentence or two to figure out who some chapters are about. There is a lot going on in this novel and I would not call it an 'easy' read, you do need to be paying attention. Detective Abby Hart is a determined police detective, yet when her world gets rocked is she destined for something else or is police work still in her blood. She must come to grips with her past, present and future. PI Luke Murphy, who I love by the way, is also mixed up in Abby's past. Will he be able to help Abby and keep his feelings in check? He specializes in cold case files and loves his job and family. This novel is full of suspense, mystery and some fun and exciting police work. I can't wait to read book three. I was given a copy of this novel from net galley for my honest opinion.
