About this ebook

She expected to lose the land, maybe her job as well.

But losing her heart? She hadn’t counted on that.

For over a year, Maisie Chaplin has desperately fought to preserve acreage adjacent to her beloved Civil War battlefield. Pleading with various officials hasn’t worked. She even stalked the landowner’s attorney, Cord Bilton, hoping for help.

That went nowhere. Well, unless you count falling for each other.

As an intense, fiery attraction draws them together, Maisie faces losing her first true love—the land. And Cord’s first duty is to his client and the law, despite what his heart tells him.

Where the Fire Is Hottest is the third book in the Bourbonland contemporary romance series.

Wow!!!! What a book! This has to be my favorite of all the Bourbon and Bourbonland series. I had the honor of reading an advance copy of "Where the Fire is Hottest" for an honest review. Honestly - I loved it!!! Ms. Bramseth has incorporated two things that I dearly love and love to read about - History (especially Civil War History) and Law. The author has a unique quality about her that she can write about legal stories and speak "legalese" without it going over the head of the reader. This story is about a Park Superintendent trying to save her job and the Park that she dearly loves. She encounters a man she falls for. However, if he helps her, it might hurt their possibility that they could be together......or will it? His life seems to be coming together, while her professional life is at a crossroads. But throughout the book, the character that is the driving force behind everything is the Park. There are many great places all over the world to visit and their beauty is indescribable, but we only need to look in our back yard for some of this Country's greatest history sites. This book brings out that even though something may not be as grand historically as "Gettysburg", it doesn't diminish the history behind it. We need to preserve our history (sorry for the soap box). Again this is absolutely a must read. This is a standalone book...but do yourself a favor and read the other's first. It will make more sense to you once you know the past characters from the other books that make appearances

There's one thing that is guaranteed with each book I've read that Ms Bramseth has written, I feel. For the story, the characters, and in this case the terrible desperation of men fighting a tragic war...said in their own words...an overwhelming sadness can be deeply felt for the loss suffered. As Cord and Maisie grow closer, there are forces working in the background which will create great pain for them and so many others...there are twists and turns that are sure to keep you hooked. And just when you think the couple have found their HEA, the author creates the unexpected. There is never a time during the story where you should think you know what will happen, you'd be surprised at the conflict that creeps in. And the surprise of the story was Clay...his façade is his armor towards the outside world. His story is sure to be an eye opener. I'm always looking forward to the next book in the series, I know I won't be disappointed. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by author. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

I guess it's fitting that Cord and Maisie are part of the Bourbonland series. A place where the liquor flows freely, history runs deep and emotions run high. Where the women are as passionate as the men are alpha and the pheromone level is always on high. When you have two strong characters, it's not an easy feat to keep them from overpowering each other or the story, yet Ms. Bramseth manages to steer clear of that pitfall. Maisie is a woman who is not afraid to fight for her beliefs and Cord is a man with a lust for battle and a thirst for doing what's right. Not only do they butt heads, they set off sparks. A Jennifer Bramseth character is a prime example of how to live one's truth. Out loud and super proud, at the head of the crowd.
