Lady Emilia met the Knights when they were protecting her father. Now she is the one needing their protection. Harrowing, dark historical romance suspense. Physical and emotional abuse and the demons of war are examined. 3 1/2 stars, 1/2 star for mystery element. Book free for honest review.

A thoroughly wonderful Regency romance with a touch of intrigue! The hero, Sir Colin Stirling, is one of the Highland Knights, a group of Scottish knights sworn to protect England’s crown. Colin is suffering from what we today call post-traumatic stress syndrome as a result of the ghastly horrors of war. He is sought after for protection by Lady Emilia Pinfield who has run away from her father because of his abusive brutality and treasonous plans against the crown. During Colin’s and Emilia’s flight to Scotland to escape her father so that she can heal and ready herself for testimony against her father, they fall in love. The chase and capture—and chase again--made for a very thrilling, historical and adventurous love story. A copy of the book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lady Emilia is whisked away to the protection of the Colin Stirling and thus starts the adventure of finding the answers to her father's schemes and healing. This is the first book I've read from this series and will be investigating the other books . Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are my own.
