Can a former nomad with a troublemaking personality fall for a no-nonsense, straight-laced sheriff?
Chloe Traeger lost her mother, but she has found her half-siblings. Also, she has found a home in Lucky Harbor and a business in the bed and breakfast that she and her siblings run, and Chloe is working her own little side business. She's brewing up all natural spa products for clients.
This settled lifestyle is totally new to her, and she tries to prove herself dependable in this environment, but it's not easy to tame her nomadic ways.
Chloe lived with a mother who went from place to place and campsite to campsite in the groupie/hippie scene. Unfortunately, that lifestyle never allowed for long-term connections to anyone; Chloe learned that love was a passing kind of thing with people who flowed in and out of life the way waves lap the shore, never staying always retreating. In addition, when she tells the truth, she doesn't find anything wrong with the way she and her mother lived, except maybe her near crippling asthma.
Nevertheless, she does care for her sisters, and she cares about building the businesses. But Chloe cares just as much about rescuing dogs, before they're made to fight to the death.
Sheriff Sawyer Thompson knows Chloe has been up to something. She usually always is. No matter how much he warns her, no matter how close she's come to jail time, Chloe refuses to let the law handle it.
He would have saved the animals. He's been waiting to get this guy. Right now, he should put this woman in his car, take her to the station, and charge her with everything he could think of, starting with breaking and entering. However, he didn't. Instead, he was checking the wounds she caught, telling Chloe she needs a tetanus shot, inhaling her scent, and feeling that smoldering heat. Moreover, it wasn't because he was just like her, years ago, causing trouble and mayhem, and it was not because she lost her mother or because his mother left his family long ago.
There was more to Chloe then her asthma, her daring streak, and her body parts. Okay. Maybe he'd been interested in those body parts for a while now, but he really wanted to know her, and that was something that just did not happen to Sheriff Sawyer Thompson.
Didn't he have enough with just his own problems with allowing the lustful feelings for the woman to become something else?
He has a near alcoholic father who hates him for past crimes, and who doesn't, can't, or won't see Sawyer as an upright man of the law, now. His father would pay a stranger for mowing the grass and a handy man for fixing up the house before he'd accept Sawyer's help with anything.
However, when these two get together, will Sawyer let go of his no-nonsense persona to find his passionate side with her? Can she even take part in her own desires with this airway clogging, sex inhibiting disease?
My Take:
I recommend HEAD OVER HEELS by Jill Shalvis!
This is a tale about family, friends, health and romance. Jill Shalvis constructs a story to combine these elements and a full on sexy romance, and she achieves that goal.
In HEAD OVER HEELS, the reader will find characters that are blending their lives, maturing in their lives, and falling in love along the way. You will feel worry over Chloe and feel happy for her siblings, but most of all, you'll feel warm all over for Sawyer and Chloe.
This is the third book in A LUCKY HARBOR series. Moreover, it stands alone. However, you'll definitely want to read IRRESISTIBLE (Forever October 2010) and THE SWEETEST THING (Forever April 2011) to see the history these characters have with each other, and why readers are visiting Lucky Harbor. ***Though the publisher provides the free ebook, I offer the opinion.***
