About the author

Jo Walton is a fantasy and science fiction writer who was born in Wales in 1964 and now makes her home in Canada. Her first published novel was The King’s Peace (2000). In 2002 she won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, and in 2004 she won the World Fantasy Award for Tooth and Claw. From 2006 through 2008 she published Farthing, Ha'penny, and Half a Crown, three novels set in an alternate historical continuum in which Britain struck an early truce with Hitler. She refers to this sequence as the Small Change trilogy. Her 2011 novel Among Others won the Hugo and Nebula Awards. In 2014, she published What Makes This Book So Great, a collection of some of her essays written for Tor.com, and the novel My Real Children, which won the James Tiptree, Jr. Award. Her most recent novels are the Thessaly trilogy: The Just City (2015), The Philosopher Kings (2015), and Necessity (2016). She lives with her husband in Montreal, Quebec.
