Our Kids - Our Responsibility, Easter: a special Easter devotional for families

Short and Sweet Introductions

Please enjoy this Easter devotional with your family!

Written in the style of the weekly family devotional book, Our Kids - Our Responsibility by Joe Dodridge, this Easter devotional explores the death and resurrection of Jesus. It comes complete with discussion questions for families, scripture explanations, and a special section just for parents.

*********************

Our Kids - Our Responsibility is different from other family devotionals. Written by a former pastor, husband, and father of two, Our Kids - Our Responsibility contains devotions that go in-depth, ask good discussion questions, and even have a part for parents to talk later by themselves.

But, don't be scared that you need to be a Bible scholar. You don't have to know much about the Bible to use this book! This book is intended for everyone - each scripture passage is accompanied by "Notes to Sound Smart" that explain difficult verses.

Our Story...

A few years ago my family moved to start a new church. Our children were spoiled in our old church - they had children's programs on Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. They had Vacation Bible School once a year, movie nights throughout the year, sports programs, and a ton of other events just for kids.

We knew that when we started our church, we probably wouldn't have all of those things. We decided from the beginning that our kids are our responsibility. Our kids need to grow in their faith because of us.

So with that conviction in our hearts we set out to be the primary Bible teachers to our kids. And... we failed.

We tried family Bible reading. We tried family devotion books. We tried after supper. We tried at bedtime. Basically everything we tried failed because we weren't really committed and we gave up too easily.

So, that's where this book came from. I figured that there are probably plenty of families like us. Families who know they need to do something, but keep failing.

I wanted to create a resource that was structured and taught the Bible, but also had some discussion questions. I wanted to create a resource that people could read with children even if the adult doesn't really know much about the Bible to begin with. I wanted to create a resource that gives parents something to talk about too - after the kids go to bed. I wanted a resource for the whole family.

I have written a book like what my family did. Some of these are the questions we asked, the passages we read, and the ideas that challenged our faith. I hope that you will use it with your family. Your kids - your responsibility.

About Each Devotion...

Each weekly Bible study is broken into six parts - Start, Read, Discuss, Memorize, Pray, and Later for Parents.

START introduces the Bible passage as if neither you nor your kids know anything about what you're going to read.

READ is the Bible passage with a little bit of help. Most passages are followed by a box called "Notes to Sound Smart." If there is something in the passage that is confusing or requires further explanation, you can find help here.

DISCUSS is where family bonding takes place. If this book was an 80s family sitcom, then this section is where the sappy music would start to play.

MEMORIZE pulls out one key part of the Bible passage that would be great to memorize.

PRAY gives you bullet points for things you might want to pray for as a family. It also reminds you to ask your family for prayer requests - things that you want to pray for together.

LATER FOR PARENTS is an opportunity for adults to further discuss today's Bible study.

About the author

My name is Joe Dodridge and I live in Fishers, Indiana. My full-time job is a high school teacher.  I've taught school for over a dozen years and I was a pastor for 10 years.  I'm married and we have two children.

I write both travel books and Christian living books.

My writing "career" really started in eleventh grade when I wrote that year's first essay for English.  My teacher gave me my rough draft back with over half of it crossed out and told me what I wrote was useless.  I went on to get a C on that first paper and it was the beginning of a brutal boot camp experience of learning how to properly write. (split infinitive - it's OK!)

After countless papers in college and graduate school, my graduate thesis advisor was the daughter of an English professor and a journal editor.  So, I went through boot camp 2.0.

In 2007, I started writing a daily devotional online.  I bought a website and wrote over 150 devotionals.

Since then, I've written a lot of things that haven't made it out of my computer until July 2017 when  I wrote my first book, "A Short and Sweet Introduction to Walt Disney World Resort."  That book came out of my love for Disney World, my love for travel, and my desire to finally get a book written.

Are you looking for an introduction to Walt Disney World Resort? Have you been to Disney World, but things have changed or you're looking for some new tips?

Maybe when you look at a guidebook or visit a website, it's kind of like drinking water from a fire hose - too much information and too little introduction.

An introduction should be brief - not giving you hundreds of pages full of every detail.

This book will introduce you to Walt Disney World Resort: the parks, types of hotels, dining, tickets, and a lot of tips and tricks.

This isn't a guidebook that tells you about every ride, every resort and what to order at every restaurant. Instead, this guidebook is an introduction.

So, if you aren't looking for the War and Peace version of a Walt Disney World Resort guidebook, then you've come to the right place.

***

Will this be the only guidebook you'll ever need? Probably not. Think of this guidebook as a gateway to your destination. Maybe you'll want to read restaurant reviews online or visit Disney travel websites to learn about current vacation discounts.

Use this book as a way to know what to look for. Use this book as a way to know what questions to ask. Use this book like an introductory college course.

This book will introduce you to the four major theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. This book will introduce you to the two water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. This book has sections on dining, hotels, other entertainment, tickets, promotions, crowd sizes, Fastpass+, Magic Bands, how to get there, how to get around once you're there, and more!

So, what are you waiting for - it's time to get introduced to Walt Disney World Resort!

***

Here are some tips found in the book:

DINING TIP: "You can purchase many things that aren't listed on the menu. Consider asking for an entrée without the side that is listed with it. You might even be able to order a slice of bread or a slice of bacon on the side."

BOOKING HOTELS: "You can also book Disney hotels through online booking sites such as Expedia or Orbitz. While these sites don't offer packages with tickets, they often offer similar room-only discounts when Disney World is running promotions. A great tip is that sometimes these online booking sites have coupon codes that offer a percentage off your booking. Some people even have rewards dollars or credits that they can use with online booking sites."

USING FASTPASS+: "Be aggressive when using the My Disney Experience app to select additional Fastpasses once your original three are done. Never give up on a certain ride or a certain time. People are always changing their Fastpasses which makes Fastpass availability change every second. Therefore, you can refresh the available Fastpasses by selecting different times at the top of the screen. It is possible that rides that aren't available at all now will be available the next minute."
Have you been frustrated trying to process the massive amount of information about Disney World?
Maybe you've bought a handful of books, visited countless websites, and talked to friends, but still have a problem organizing all of the information to make your perfect family vacation decisions.

This is the book you need to save you time, money, and frustration!

This new, innovative book organizes the massive amount of Disney World information into easy-to-read charts, tables, and graphs that will make your Disney-planning life so much easier!

SPECIAL NOTE - This book is offered as part of a 3-book Disney World combo book called "A Disney World Combo Book! 3 Books in 1, Edition 2: 2019."  Click the author name above to find the combo book and SAVE MONEY!

Why should you read a Disney World book written by me?

A teacher by heart and experience, I have been to Disney World as a child and as a parent. I've taken my kids when they were both younger and older.

I've written three Disney World books - this new book, 250 Tips and Tricks for Walt Disney World Resort, and two editions of A Short and Sweet Introduction to Walt Disney World Resort. I've even combined the last two books into one combo book (click on my author name above for links to these books).

I understand that Disney World can be overwhelming and that you don't want to waste a year's worth of time planning a weeklong trip. My books teach you what you need to know, give you some great tips to make your trip easier, and don't overload you with tons of useless information.
