Así como la primera venida del Señor tuvo su precursor, "también lo tendrá la segunda", aseguró John H. Newman en cuatro sermones memorables. Si el primer precursor fue San Juan Bautista, el segundo será mucho "más que un enemigo de Cristo, será la misma imagen de Satán, el pavoroso y aborrecible Anticristo". En sus sermones, Newman advirtió que, a los ingenuos Satán les "promete libertad civil, les promete igualdad, les promete comercio y riqueza, les promete reformas". Se "burla de los tiempos pasados y de todas las instituciones que los representan". Y fue aún más allá el Santo cuando anunció que se produciría un "despliegue de milagros" reales o ficticios, que podrían ser "descubrimientos de las ciencias", que afianzarían el poder del Anticristo.
About the author
John Henry Newman, fue un presbítero anglicano convertido al catolicismo en 1845, más tarde elevado a la dignidad de cardenal por el papa León XIII. Fue autor de importantes libros, entre ellos Vía Media, Ensayo sobre el Desarrollo de la Doctrina Cristiana, Apologia Pro Vita Sua, y Grammar of Assent. Fue beatificado por el papa Benedicto XVI y luego canonizado oficialmente por el papa Francisco el año 2019.
