About the author

A born and bred Capetonian, John Muir is a former city councillor and for 11 years was chairman of the Simon van der Stel Foundation, a heritage organisation for which he regularly leads historical tours of the Cape Peninsula. He has published two previous books, Know Your Cape and John Muir’s Guide to the Western Cape and has written over 200 articles on Cape Town’s heritage.
