About this ebook

A formula is derived for the optimum combining coefficients for an antenna array in order to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio in the presence of external interference and local noise. The parameters necessary for the optimization can be determined from in-place measurements on the array element outputs, or can be calculated from known statistics of the interference. The technique is illustrated by theoretically optimized arrays for single and multiple interfering sources at fixed locations, for distributed sky noise, for randomly located interfering sources, and for interfering sources at fixed but uncertain location. The technique lends optimizing the performance of electronically steerable arrays. (Author).
