A "Coronica do Condestabre de Portugal Nuno Aluares Pereyra" teve várias edições, sendo a primeira conhecida a de 1526, impressa em Lisboa por Germão Galharde. Nela se conta a vida de Nuno Álvares Pereira (1360-1431), nomeado condestável de Portugal pelo rei D. João I. Na obra são relatadas as lutas contra o rei de Castela, que entre 1383 e 1385, após a morte do rei D. Fernando, tentou anexar Portugal. Nuno Álvares teve um papel fundamental na resistência armada contra os castelhanos e na ligitimação da nova dinastia iniciada pelo mestre de Avis, filho bastardo do rei D. Pedro I. Nuno Álvares representa o ideal cavalheiresco.
