Grand Mal is the story of Chris, a young man with Epilepsy seeking a graduate degree in Counseling at the Penn State University in State College Pennsylvania. It is the story of Michael, his best friend, and how love will impact his decisions and ultimately change everything. It is the story of Mary Grace, Chris's childhood crush, and of her unlikely re-emergence into Chris's life as he pursues a treatment for his seizures. It is the story of Sam, the eccentric local bookstore owner, who offers a source of encouragement as Chris copes with his condition and the stigma it often embodies. It is a reminder of ability and disability, failure and success, alienation and reunion, pain and the power of healing.

About the author

A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and the Art Institute of York, Joshua A. Holmes has studied the fine arts, design, and writing for over 20 years. He concentrates in the areas of portraiture and wildlife, has been commissioned by numerous collectors within the community, and has won several awards in various shows and fairs throughout the state.

He attributes his success to the Lord, and the strength God gives him in order to persist and grow as a more patient and thorough artist and writer. Despite a 50% vision cut in both eyes from a failed brain surgery, with the Lord's help, Josh continues to see more and more detail, and hopes to improve with time.
