It is a collection of short mysteries from 1800's, Germany and nearby area. It does have interesting differences from similar anthologies based in Great Britain of the same era. Some of the stories were fairly clever and the cultural as well as the societal roles of the era caught my interest. The emotional roles of men versus women were very different than I expected. I enjoyed it as a whole.
