Juliana Richards arrived in the United States from Nigeria with little more than 100 dollars in her pocket. Ten years later she was the founder and CEO of Slim Girl Shapewear, a fast-growing global brand and multimillion-dollar company. Her body shaping and contouring clothing line has opened up a whole new category of clothing for women around the world and become go-to wardrobe necessities for high profile celebrities such as Khloe Kardashian, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Carmen Electra, and others.
In Building a Million Dollar Side Hustle, Richards shares her compelling and inspiring journey of immigrating to the United States and starting a company using her college loans, expanding it into a global brand leader in body shapers, swimwear, and lingerie. In sharing her story to inspire other entrepreneurs, Richards explains her three-word philosophy: poise, obsession, and persistence.
The story of Slim Girl Shapewear—Juliana’s story—is her testament and her gift to anyone who wants to achieve success. This is a book for anyone who believes in the American Dream, and for anyone who wants to be deeply moved by a story filled with wisdom, inspiration, hope, and humor.
Juliana Richards is the founder and CEO of Slim Girl Shapewear, a major worldwide player with physical stores on three continents and a strong online retail presence. Her leading clothing line is shapewear, undergarments that slim the waist and smooth and control one’s figure. She also has introduced a line of lingerie with the intention of leveraging her well-respected brand to gain market share in this $32 billion global industry.
Born and raised in Nigeria, she moved to America as a teenager by herself to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer. She started her company while in college studying accounting. In less than ten years, this entrepreneur, wife, and mother turned Slim Girl Shapewear into what is considered one of the world’s most lucrative lines of women’s wear.
Slim Girl Shapewear has been featured on The Real and The Wendy Williams Show and in publications such as Rolling Out, Examiner, Atlanta Black Star, OK! Magazine, Health Magazine, New York Magazine, Vegan Life and Body Magazine.
“Ruth Zukerman is an inspiration. She somehow had a keen sense that indoor cycling was going to be a huge trend and she wasted no time turning it into a lucrative business. I'm among the legions of Flywheel fans who make Ruth's class part of our regular routine. Her energy, enthusiasm and great playlist keeps us spinning and coming back for more." —KATIE COURIC
Ruth Zukerman is the Queen of Spinning: she put the Soul in SoulCycle and the Fly in Flywheel.
Recounting the pivotal moments that helped launch Zukerman as the breakout star of the boutique fitness world, Riding High is a reminder that the greatest success stories often start in the unlikeliest of places.
Ruth Zukerman used her heartache–at the death of her father, the end of her marriage, and the dissolution of her first business partnership with SoulCycle, as the inspiration to reinvent herself. At 51, she co-founded a new business, the highly successful Flywheel, and built the life she’d always dreamed of. And she did it all while navigating through single motherhood and a business world that is often unkind to women, especially those who wear their hearts on their sleeves.
Riding High is a prescriptive, warts-and-all journey through Ruth’s evolution, offering fresh, unexpected business and life lessons to help readers recognize their own potential and channel their passion into success. Part confidante, part mentor, Ruth pulls no punches and holds nothing back.

If you're reading this that likely means you've heard of "selling on Amazon', "Amazon FBA" or "private label products" being bandied around online or from other entrepreneurs. Perhaps you're already quite experienced in this field and are interested in how others run their business or perhaps you're simply curious about what the fuss is all about. In a nut shell, Amazon FBA can be compared to what eBay was 10 years ago, in terms of the opportunity it provides to earn money online. The actual technicalities of how FBA and private labelling works will be covered in the next two chapters. For those that are merely curious about it, we'd guess it's because you've heard that it's a lucrative way for almost anyone to make money or a living from. Shit, maybe you've even heard that people are able to run their private label businesses from the beach and only spend an hour a day maintaining it. Despite a beautiful picture of working on the beach in leisure with your laptop by your side, sun shining overhead, and the calls of nature in the background as waves crash on the shore with birds soaring through the blue skies, trust us when we say it really isn't as fun or nice as it sounds.
There's sand everywhere! Getting into your laptop, pants, bags, and if it's a windy day, it's just blowing sand on you and the friction can be so hard the sand actually stings you. The glare from the sun on the laptop makes it insanely hard to see what's happening, especially if you've got sunglasses on. The amount of shit you have to deal with while trying to work on the beach goes on and on but if there's only one takeaway from this book, save yourself the hassle and don't try to work on the beach for anything. Okay, rant over.
It's possible you've heard claims of people making $1,000 dollars a day and this could range from groups of housewives to the unemployed making bank in a ridiculously short amount of time.
Some go even further to claim they've made millions in just their first year, and what do they do now that they're millionaires? They sell books, courses, and products about how they made they're millions. Not to rag on these people too much as we know some who are actually legit and know what they're talking about and doing, but a lot of these people out there going about touting their courses aren't offering a whole lot of value for what they're charging or are simply sharing outdated information as they aren't actively selling in the Amazon marketplace anymore as they now make their living from selling their education based products.
