About this ebook

Julie Klassen Is the Gold Standard for Inspirational Regency Fiction

Sophie Dupont, daughter of a portrait painter, assists her father in his studio, keeping her own artwork out of sight. She often walks the cliffside path along the north Devon coast, popular with artists and poets. It's where she met the handsome Wesley Overtree, the first man to tell her she's beautiful.

Captain Stephen Overtree is accustomed to taking on his brother's neglected duties. Home on leave, he's sent to find Wesley. Knowing his brother rented a cottage from a fellow painter, he travels to Devonshire and meets Miss Dupont, the painter's daughter. He's startled to recognize her from a miniature portrait he carries with him--one of Wesley's discarded works. But his happiness plummets when he realizes Wesley has left her with child and sailed away to Italy in search of a new muse.

Wanting to do something worthwhile with his life, Stephen proposes to Sophie. He does not offer love, or even a future together, but he can save her from scandal. If he dies in battle, as he believes he will, she'll be a respectable widow with the protection of his family.

Desperate for a way to escape her predicament, Sophie agrees to marry a stranger and travel to his family's estate. But at Overtree Hall, her problems are just beginning. Will she regret marrying Captain Overtree when a repentant Wesley returns? Or will she find herself torn between the father of her child and her growing affection for the husband she barely knows?

I love the way Julie Klassen grips you in the first few pages of her books and does not let you go until the last page. Many times I find myself remembering parts of the stories a long time later. That may be why this was my eleventh book by this author. She has a special way of using her words to paint wonderful pictures. The Painter's Daughter is no exception. The description of Devonshire, the rented cottage and the cliff side path Sophie often takes makes you want to go there and see it for yourself. Ms. Klassen has a way of evoking all of your emotions. I found this novel to be suspenseful, sad, happy, heart braking, and full of love. It has something for everyone. I would highly recommend this book of Julie Klassen.

Julie Klassen never disappoints. Her intriguing story, mystery and romance are always well written and exciting. She will keep you up late into the night reading. Sophie never imagined her life would go so wrong. When she finds herself pregnant and without any knowledge where the baby's father is, she wonders what she is to do. When the brother of the father comes to the rescue, in more ways than one, can she trust him? Does she really have a choice? What kind of man is he anyway? Captain Stephen Overtree is tired of constantly looking for and fixing the problem his brother creates. When he runs into a dead end in his search yet finds Sophie in need of rescue, he can only do what he feels is right. Will she ever see him with out fear in her eyes? This story has many twist and turns. Sometimes you wonder what is going to take place next. The story only gets better as the Overtree family face many trials. It is a story of love and forgiveness. Even when we make bad decisions God is in control and can turn our mistakes into a beautiful portrait. I was given a copy of this novel from net galley for my honest opinion.

This book was my first experience with Julie Klassen. This book is excellent. I could not put it down! I loved the story line. I was impressed that the author tackles such real-life topics. I thought the main character was well written and dealt with her mistakes properly and with grace. I loved the historical moments with Bonaparte's escape from exile and the second war he drew the British into. Those pages flew for me. Overall, such a great book!
