Kate Bateman's To Catch an Earl continues her historical Regency Romance Bow Street Bachelors series.

Working undercover for London’s first official police force, the Bow Street Bachelors have an obligation to serve the city’s best interests—even while they’re falling for the city’s most alluring women...

SHE KNOWS HOW TO STEAL A KISS.

Alex Harland, Earl of Melton and dedicated rake, never pictured himself as an agent of inquiry. But the thrill of investigation is a challenge he now embraces. When he’s asked to pursue the Nightjar, a notorious thief who is reclaiming France’s crown jewels, the case throws him into the path of the beautiful and equally elusive Emmy Danvers, reminding him of the only puzzle he’s never solved: the identity of the mysterious woman who once stole a kiss from him—and left him wanting so much more...

WILL HE SURRENDER HIS HEART?

The daughter of a thief, Emmy learned long ago how to keep her secrets safeguarded—and, as the notorious Nightjar, her love for Alex Harland is one of them. With the determined earl hot on her trail—and making her hot under the collar—Emmy has no choice but to keep her distance. But when a moment’s danger threatens Emmy’s life as well as her name, will Alex finally discover that he’s followed every clue...to true love?

“Full of intense emotions and dramatic twists....Future installments will be eagerly anticipated by Regency readers.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review) on This Earl of Mine

To Catch An Earl is a magnificent historical romance by Kate Bateman. Ms. Bateman has once again amazed me with this spectacular, well-written book. Folks, you're going to love these characters! Emmy is a thief, trained by her father, the Nightjar. After her father's death her family is now being forced to steal the missing gems of the French crown jewels. Alex is a former soldier, now titled and doing work for Bow Street and his new assignment is to find the thief. Alex and Emmy's story is loaded with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. Once started I couldn't put this book down. I loved it and can't wait for my next book by Kate Bateman. To Catch An Earl is book 2 of the Bow Street Bachelors but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

To Catch An Earl is book two in A Bow Street Bachelors series by Kate Bateman. I enjoy Bateman’s writing. She has a talent for hooking the reader’s attention and then pulling you along at a frantic and frenzied pace. I was mesmerized and couldn’t put the book down. Alex Harland is a magnificent hero - a man torn between his attraction to a thief and doing his job helping Bow Street investigate sensitive cases. I liked the heroine Emmeline Louise d’Anvers. She has enough humor and wit to keep the story interesting. “Her heart almost stopped when he bent his head and kissed her. A light, almost questioning touch. He repeated the action, his lips soft yet firm, and Emmy closed her eyes, determined to savor the experience. This might be her one and only kiss with Alex Harland, ever.” There are a number of steamy sex scenes. I also enjoyed the references to words not found in the English language. One lovely example is a word Ms. Bateman mentions at the end of her book - Koi No Yokan means the sense of inevitability upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall in love. Bravo Ms. Bateman. Another masterpiece!

Alex Harland, Earl of Melton is a second born son and a known rake. After Alex's time in the service he is now working undercover with the Bow Street Bachelors, part of London’s first official police force. Alex loves the thrill and excitement that comes from doing an investigation and his newest case is no exception....capturing Nightjar, a notorious thief who is reclaiming France’s crown jewels one bauble at a time. When Alex's investigation brings him up close and personal with Emmeline d'Anvers, all bets are off. Emmy is the only woman that Alex has thought of in the last four years, ever since their lovely dance and sweet kiss. Emmy may be unforgettable, but she is also an irritating spitfire in the form of a beautiful female that always seems to be two steps ahead of him. Alex is convinced that Emmy is Nightjar, now he just has to prove it. What may have started out as a game of cat and mouse quickly turns into something much more exciting. Just when it looks like one of these two is going to win, it ends up they both end up losing.....their hearts that is! I just adored this story and could not put it down. I LOVED Emmy! Such a fun, sassy female who had no problem putting Alex in his place! I loved her quick wit and the things she would say. I enjoyed how she challenged Alex every step of the way and she would own her actions. I also really enjoyed Alex. He is a great, noble, honest man who always wanted to do the right thing. It was fun watching him fall so hard for a thief! Overall this book was wonderful and I can't wait for Sebastien's story!
