Kayla is a mature seven-year-old who was born in Shanghai, yet Australian by descent. She speaks fluent Mandarin and English. She grew up loving story times with her daddy and younger sister before bed. But as she grew older, she and her daddy began making up and writing their own stories; and that’s how Rainbow Dreamgirls came about to keep her creative and inquisitive mind always thinking and reading. It’s her first book, and there are plans for many more.
Shannon, 39, loved to read to his daughters before bed, as it wasn’t something he experienced being the eighth of nine boys growing up in Australia. Shannon believes a passion for reading and writing will set his girls up for success in life, but they have to fall in love with reading by themselves. Whilst working in a busy job, he would always find the time to return home for bedtime reading. A new job forced him to work hundreds of miles away from home, yet the Rainbow Dreamgirls story was the one constant and took on a life of its own as they shaped it together from a distance. It was so much fun, that they decided to see how they could bring their very first story to life, and thus share their love for reading, writing and making a difference in the world.
