Eli Dawes, the Earl of Rivers, was once a notorious rake. Eli was titled, handsome, and charming. He enjoyed women and women adored him. But, the one woman Eli desired above all others, was engaged to Anthony, his best friend. Anthony, however, didn’t respect the woman he supposedly loved and was to marry. Eli wouldn’t find out, though, just how awful his friend was until it was too late. The battle of Waterloo changed the Earl physically and emotionally. The self-confident man who had joined the military was not the same man who returned home, to England. The Earl’s gross facial disfigurement made sure of that. Rose Hayward ran a school for young women from prominent families. She was also a much sought out artist. Rose’s passion for helping flawed individuals raise their self-esteem, came after Rose was shunned in London. She believed, Eli Dawes, and her fiancé, Anthony, were the ones responsible for her humiliation. But, Rose didn’t have all the facts; facts she discovered, would both sting and heal. Last Night With The Earl is an enjoyable historical fiction romance. Thank you, Forever-Grand Central Publishing, for my advanced review copy.

This was practically a novella. 266 pages of story, the rest is just fluff. Barely any adversity (or pages) for the H&h to end up together. When a description says 464 pages, I expect at least 350 are the actual title I purchased. I didn't want 100 pages of another story. I wanted 1 fleshed out story with the 375+ pages I expected.

Last Night With The Earl is a wonderful steamy romance. Bowen spins a complex tale that beats a romantic heart all its own. Her characters are very well developed with deep layers. Truly a great foray into the world of England after Napoleon’s defeat. I can’t wait to read more from this talented author. A must read.
