About this ebook

USA TODAY BESTSELLER • Hailed by Jami Davenport as her “go-to author for hockey romance,” the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series sets the ice ablaze with another sexy novel featuring the gorgeous men of the Chicago Aces.

Duncan Armstrong may be an NHL star, but he’s a country boy at heart. His ultimate fantasy is going home with the Stanley Cup, not a gold-digging airhead who aspires to be a trophy wife and nothing more. Newly single and hoping to enjoy a night out with his teammates, he ends up hitting it off with a down-to-earth waitress who’s a complete breath of fresh air—until Duncan learns that she’s a part-time model. He tries to forget about her, but their sizzling chemistry has him coming back for more.

Amber Johnson is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She’s seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father’s brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan’s attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there’s something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.

Kelly Jamieson scores again with Icing the latest book in the Aces Hockey Series. Twenty-seven-year-old NHL Star Duncan Armstrong recently has broken up with his model girlfriend who was using him for his money. Amber Johnson Is the daughter of a former NFL star and wants nothing to do with a professional athlete. When they meet they hit it off, but as soon as they find out the others' profession red flags are raised. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Chicago and suitable for new adult and adult audiences. I really like both Duncan and Amber. We met Duncan in book one when the Captain of the Chicago Aces and his roommate, Marc Dupuis, starts to date Duncan’s sister Lovey. Duncan’s ex-girlfriend/model Melissa is a piece of work. I felt bad that she used Duncan. Amber had a tough life growing up. I found it fascinating how Amber, and her mother handled the situation so differently, Amber clearly acting more adult. It is understandable why she would be skeptical about athletes. I thought it was interesting that both Duncan and Amber instantaneously liked each other when they first met but then judged each other because of the other’s profession and their past experiences. They both had a lot in common and have great chemistry. I enjoyed the plot. It was believable and well executed. I like that we got a feel for Duncan’s and Melissa’s relationship in book one and that Icing starts with their break up. The hockey scenes are skillfully described and credible. The ending was well resolved. This story could easily be followed as a standalone, but I recommend reading them in order. Complimentary copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Aces Hockey series but can be read as a standalone. After Duncan breaks up with his gold digging model girlfriend, he ends up at his team-mate’s bar called the Sin Bin. While sitting at the bar he takes notice of Amber; a new waitress. While they seem to have a good time talking, neither one knows that each of them is someone the other does not want anything to do with. Duncan is a NHL hockey player and Amber is a part-time model. As they spend more time together, Duncan begins to realize he cannot lump Amber is with his ex-girlfriend. She is not a spoiled, money-grubbing model he expected all models to be. She is strong and independent. She is willing to make her own way in life without having to rely on a man. Because of Amber’s background with her father, she is reluctant to get involved with a person who has a career in sports. So she is reluctant to start a relationship with Duncan. She feels he will eventually disappoint her just like her father. But Duncan is nowhere near like her father. He is sweet, kind, and generous. As their romance heats up, they begin to drop their defenses and learn to trust each other. Over all this was an enjoyable book. The dialogue was realistic and flowed easily, which made the story progress just at the right rate. The author does a good way of combining sports and romance in one. She has wonderful secondary characters. Ones that you have seen in previous books. You get a little bit more insight into their lives since their story. I look forward to more books by this author.

This one was amazing! I just adored Duncan and though Amber was his perfect match. In his past relationships he's always felt more like an ATM than a boyfriend. Tired of being used for his fame and money, he swears off women. Of course that doesn't last long. As soon as he meets Amber he knows she different. The more he tries with her though the more it seems she is pushing him away and he has no idea why. That is until he learns who her father is and how he has always treated Amber and her mother. With this understanding he starts working to slowly tear down the walls she has around her heart. A great story and while technically a "hockey romance", hockey really takes a backseat in this story. Definitely a book I recommend.
