This historical fiction captures the adventures of David Balfour, a young boy who was kidnapped by his own uncle. Set around 18th century Scottish events, it narrates how David was kidnapped and cast away, his sufferings in a desert island, his journey in the wild highlands, his dealing with the notorious highland Jacobites, and finally how he received his inheritance. Also, it vividly portrays the political situation of the time in Scotland.

Robert Louis Stevenson, a well-known Scottish author, was born to Thomas Stevenson and Margaret on November 13, 1850 at Edinburgh, Scotland. His major writings include Treasure Island, An Inland Voyage, Kidnapped, The Silverado Squatters, The Beach of Falesa, The Ebb-Tide, Vailima Letters, A Child’s Garden of Verses, and Underwoods. He died on December 3, 1894 at the age of forty-four.
