About this eBook

The third book in the thrilling #1 New York Times bestselling series!

In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s #1 New York Times bestselling Red Queen series, rebellion is rising and allegiances will be tested on every side. Perfect for fans of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series.

Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.

As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.

When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

Some people have complained that the book starts slow which is true, their is little in the way of action or fighting in the first half of the book, but instead we get to see inside Mare's captivity and there is some really nice character development for Mare and some surprising revelations about Maven. Victoria Aveyard also added two more POV in this book, the first one is Cameron, the girl who can silence other peoples abilities to the point of killing them even. Her POV I personally didn't like because she tends to be whiny and doesn't really bring anything new into the story. The second new POV I won't give away but it is really cool and really makes you understand the characters life and actions more. The second half of the book is more familiar with plenty of action and romance and the cliffhanger ending makes me dread the fact I have to wait another year at least for the fourth book.

At first, I was traumatized by mare torture. I was surprised it took on the form of many chapters. However, intense it provided amazing character development and growth. Overall, a good book. Appreciate the powerful scenes and dialgoue.
